Shaun Murphy: Snooker star opens up about weight struggles
Former world champion admits to 'ballooning' to 20 stone
Shaun Murphy has revealed he reached his heaviest ever weight during this year's World Snooker Championship. The 41-year-old, who won the tournament in 2005, told the BBC's Framed snooker podcast that he had "ballooned" to 20 stone (127kg).
"I was 20 stone at the World Championship," Murphy said. "I was playing terrible, I was overweight, I was out of shape, I was drinking too much. I was just in a really bad place."
Murphy said that he had been struggling with his weight for several years, but that the added pressure of the World Championship had made things worse.
"I was carrying a lot of weight around with me, and it was affecting my game," he said. "I was getting tired quickly, I wasn't moving as well as I could, and I was making mistakes that I wouldn't normally make."
Murphy has since lost weight and is now feeling much better
Murphy said that he has since lost weight and is now feeling much better. He said that he has been following a healthy diet and exercise plan, and that he has cut down on his drinking.
"I'm feeling much better now," Murphy said. "I'm moving better, I'm playing better, and I'm feeling more confident. I'm still not at my ideal weight, but I'm getting there."
Murphy's weight loss journey is an inspiration to others who are struggling with their weight. It shows that it is possible to make a change, even if it seems difficult at first.
