Mascherano Names World Cup Winners in Squad
Argentina is targeting Olympic glory at Paris 2024 with a strong squad that includes four World Cup winners and Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez. Javier Mascherano, the Argentina U23 head coach, has named his 18-player football squad for the Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
Argentina has a rich history in Olympic football, having won the gold medal in 2004 and 2008. They also picked up their first medal in their debut campaign in 1928, a silver after defeat against neighbors and familiar foes Uruguay.
The team's roster for the men's soccer tournament at the Paris Olympics includes Alvarez, who has been in impressive form for Manchester City this season, and Benfica defender Nicolas Otamendi. The squad also features four players who were part of Argentina's World Cup-winning team in Qatar: goalkeeper Franco Armani, defender Nicolas Tagliafico, midfielder Enzo Fernandez, and forward Paulo Dybala.
Argentina will be one of the favorites to win the gold medal in Paris. They will be hoping to emulate the success of their senior team, who won the Copa America in 2021 and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
