Yankees Trim AL East Lead to 1 Game
Cole Pitches Six Solid Innings
Orioles Drop Fourth Straight
The New York Yankees moved within a game of first place in the AL East with a 4-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. Gerrit Cole pitched six strong innings for the Yankees, allowing just one run on five hits.
The Orioles have now lost four straight games.
Aaron Judge hit his 33rd home run of the season for the Yankees, a solo shot in the fourth inning. The Orioles tied the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Santander, but the Yankees took the lead for good in the sixth on a two-run single by Gleyber Torres.
The benches cleared in the ninth inning after Orioles pitcher Dillon Tate threw a high and inside fastball to Judge. No punches were thrown, and both teams were warned.
The Yankees are now 45-36, while the Orioles are 41-37.
