Police Rescue Rabbi and Hostages
The police successfully rescued a rabbi and several hostages on Saturday night in Colleyville, Texas, after an 11-hour standoff with a gunman inside the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspect, identified as Malik Faisal Akram, 44, was killed during the rescue operation.
Three Hostages Escape
Earlier in the day, three hostages managed to escape from the synagogue. They alerted authorities, who then launched a tactical operation to enter the building and rescue the remaining hostages.
FBI Crisis Negotiator Engaged
Throughout the ordeal, an FBI crisis negotiator remained in contact with Akram. The negotiations involved threats, prayers, and demands, including that Akram be allowed to speak to Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist imprisoned in the United States.
Hostage Situation Continues
Despite the rescue of some hostages, the hostage situation remains ongoing as of Saturday night. Authorities are still working to apprehend the suspect and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
